About the Postmortem Imaging Interpretation Working Group

Notice from the Postmortem Imaging Interpretation Working Group (March 21, 2025)

In response to the growing demand for postmortem imaging in the coming years, the Japanese Study Group of Forensic Radiology and Imaging has established a working group dedicated to addressing various challenges related to postmortem image interpretation.
The group aims to promote research, education, and collaboration toward improving the accuracy and standardization of postmortem image reading.

Activities

1. Development and Revision of Postmortem Imaging Interpretation Guidelines
Based on a research project funded by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare that began in 2012, the guidelines for postmortem imaging interpretation have been developed and revised multiple times.
Going forward, this working group will take the lead in maintaining and updating these guidelines.

2. Organization of Postmortem Imaging Interpretation Workshops
Workshops have been held at academic meetings in Japan and at several international venues, including regular sessions at the Annual Meeting of the Japan Radiological Society.
The working group will continue to play a central role in organizing and enhancing these educational activities.

3. Training of Future Instructors in Postmortem Imaging Interpretation
To ensure the continuity of postmortem imaging interpretation, research, and education, the working group will further develop current initiatives, focusing on mentoring young professionals and nurturing the next generation of leaders.
In particular, the group will collaborate with related organizations to cultivate experts capable of interdisciplinary cooperation across various fields.

The Japan Radiological Society (JRS) has expressed its support for these activities and will continue to collaborate with the working group in the future.
